Food for Life classes during the school
day are based on the
Food is Elementary curriculum designed by the Food Studies Institute
(
www.foodstudies.org). Colorful whole
foods are used to teach students basic nutrition concepts and cooking skills in
a hands-on manner that engages all 5 senses. Students prepare recipes from around
the world, fostering cross-cultural appreciation. The universal nature of food makes
it easy to incorporate many disciplines, including botany, geography, history, chemistry,
math, art, and music.
