School Wellness Committee

The Wellness Committee is dedicated to providing a school environment that promotes and protects our students’ health and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. Food For LifeThe Local School Wellness Policy is part of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, and requires each school district participating in the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program to develop a local wellness policy that promotes the health of students and addresses the growing problem of childhood obesity. On June 13, 2006, the BCPSS Board of School Commissioners approved the Baltimore City Local Wellness Policy, which has five main components:
  1. Nutrition Education
  2. Physical Education
  3. Other School-Based Wellness Activities
  4. Nutrition Standards
  5. Local Wellness Policy Coordination & Evaluation

HHA parents are encouraged to join the Wellness Committee. Come voice your opinion on these important matters! We meet in the Food for Life room on a monthly basis: Monthly Wellness Committee Meetings 2007-2008 Mondays (3-3:30 pm) – 9/10, 10/15, 12/17, 2/25, 3/17, 5/19 Early release Fridays (1-1:30 pm) - 11/16, 1/18, 4/18
